Former Raelette singer-songwriter Cynthia Scott wants to make a positive change in the world...one song at a time.  She is loved by audiences from New York to Africa, Europe and Asia: by musicians from Wynton Marsalis to Ray Charles - who discovered her - and by jazz critics like Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune who called her “a mesmerizing vocalist.” 

Her all-encompassing artistry is in full effect on her latest CD Dream for One Bright World. The first all original vocal recording to land on the Jazzweek charts and stay. A eleven-track recording that soothes and grooves with straight-ahead, latin-tinged numbers, beautiful ballads, and spoken word, all telling stories about life, love, loss, homelessness, hope, and Martin Luther King. She wrote and co-wrote most of the music and lyrics and is supported by a who’s who of New York’s finest musicians: 

pianist/keyboardist John di Martino, multi-reedist Bill Easley, bassist Lonnie Plaxico, drummer Yoron Israel, percussionist Jeff Haynes, tenor saxophonist Wayne Escoffrey, trumpeter Etienne Charles, and trombonist Andrae Murchison.

The leadoff cut, “If The Shoe Fits,” is a no-nonsense “signifying” number that tells the truth, shames the devil and crashes her own pity party. The audience joins her in a chant... “Release your pain, Let it go and Set it free.”  “Shades of Ray,” is her spectacular shout-out to her former employer and mentor, featuring her “lyrical sampling” of Charles greatest hits, including “Hit the Road Jack,” What’d I Say,” and Hallelujah, “I Love Her So.” The title track “Dream For One Bright World,” features a children’s choir composed of Brooklyn grade school students. Cathy Gruenfeld  of Jazz Improv Magazine reviewed the CD and stated... “This album is full of songs that I urge all chorus teachers in New York City and elsewhere to play in the classrooms.  And, I would recommend it to anyone as a very powerful reminder of what is important in life.” 

“Did I Know You” is dedicated to Scott’s mother and to all of those who have suffered from Alzheimer’s. The song is told from the perspective of the person who is suffering from this disease. It has been featured as a Theater Production at the New Federal Theater and The American Renaissance Theater In New York.

A former U.S. Jazz Ambassador, Cynthia Scott holds a Master’s Degree from Manhattan School of Music and studied acting under Uta Hagen. She is on the teaching vocal roster at The New School and CIty College in New York City and she conducts master classes, vocal workshops and teaches privately.
